7 REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD ALWAYS BACK UP YOUR WEBSITE

Picture this: You are about to strike a deal with a client, you have invested your blood, sweat and tears to land this contact and you quickly go on your website to check if everything is honkey dory and what you see is.. well, nothing. Your website is gone. You, my friend, are in big trouble.

There are several reasons why making backups of your website is important, and this article is going to lay it all out for you. Go get your coffee ready, and let’s get going!

1: Hackers

All of us are familiar with hackers, and what they do. The mistake most people make is thinking “Meh, it will never happen to me.” There are instances where attackers want to either steal important information on your website, vandalize your website or take over your website and promote content. There are various ways that you can fix this problem. However, it can be timely, and we all know time is money. The easiest way to get your site up and running again is restore the latest back up of your website. Backups are your websites insurance.

2: Prevent Loss of Data

Data can be lost on your website in various ways. For instance, you ask an employee to do something on the website, they have no idea what they are doing, and important content or hundreds of documents are accidently deleted. Sometimes data can be lost without human error. You should absolutely always keep a backup of your website to ensure that your data is safe. We all know that you need to make backups of important files on your laptop or PC. Doing the same with your website is no different.

3: Malware infections

Malware is like the grim reaper of the internet. It threatens web developers, website owners and internet users every single day. People usually assume that malware is something that only affect PCs. However, it is not true. If you don’t know what malware is and what it can do to your website, then you are one of those people who are vulnerable to malware infections.  A lot of websites are infected with some kind of malware, even if you have (or think you have) top notch security in place on your website. The easiest way to clean up your website is to restore a recent back up.

4: Update Issues

“I just clicked a button and my website is not working!” But how, you may ask?  Sometimes issues can arise while you update your website. Whether it be uploading important files or updating a simple plugin. It is important to keep your website updated, but you need to do so carefully. Should something go wrong during the process, it would be wise to have a recent back up of your website ready to just restore it back to the way it was.

5: Arrear Accounts

Sometimes your account can go into arrears by mistake. For instance, you open up a new bank account and with you being constantly busy, it completely slips your mind to update your billing information. As a result, your website is down. You would need to repurchase your hosting plan, but there is also a restore fee involved to get your website back online. Over and above the costs involved, you are losing valuable time. Your potential clients have no way to reach your, or instead click on your competitor’s website, because your website is not available. If you had a backup of your website, the element of lost time is eliminated. Time is money. Make backups!

6: Computers Crash

There is no way you can rely solely on backups stored on your personal computer as a way of keeping your website information safe. Computers crash all the time. It would be wise to do a cloud based back up to ensure that you cover all your bases. Just in case your cat makes you spill a cup of tea on your laptop, or your hard drives become unreadable.

7: It is one of the best security practices

It is clear by now that you can lose a lot of time and money if you lack an effective back up system or you just don’t bother to do regular backups. Whether you are a big or small business, an active, fully functional and working website is one of the best sales tools you can have in the 21st century! Should a problem occur, it is of utmost importance to get back online AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. A restored back up is the quickest and easiest way to get your website working again. Your website should be backed-up at least every day
